This XC40 B5 Core in Onyx Black is a much simpler, more entry-level setup compared to the XC60 and XC90 trims you've been looking at, but it still keeps the core Volvo safety and comfort basics intact.
The biggest thing to understand here is that this is a Core trim, so its designed to cover essentials rather than luxury. You still get AWD, the 2.0L turbo mild-hybrid system, and a very easy-to-drive compact SUV layout that works well in the city and tighter parking situations. It feels noticeably smaller and more maneuverable than the XC60 or XC90, which is its main advantage.
Inside, its practical rather than upscale. The City Block textile seating is durable and easier to maintain than leather, and you still get heated front and rear seats plus a heated steering wheel, which is actually a strong comfort feature for a base trim. The Google-based navigation, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, and Harman-free but still solid infotainment setup keep it modern, even if its not the premium audio experience you see in higher trims.
